British manufacturing is concentrated in Leicester, Manchester and London, and it is mostly small-run cut and sew, knitwear and specialist making. For a UK brand it means speed, easy visits and a label with real meaning to a domestic customer.

For an EU brand the picture changed after Brexit. Goods crossing in either direction carry customs formalities, and rules of origin mean a garment made in Britain from non-UK fabric may not qualify for zero duty. This is worth checking with your specific fabric before you commit, not after.

Leicester in particular carries a reputation problem the industry has not fully answered. There are excellent factories there and there have been serious labour abuses. Ask to visit, ask who audits them, and treat an unwillingness to answer either question as the answer.
